You now need a lot more torque at the wheels again for the car to pull itself uphill. Back Inner wheel erential gears second, mini-gearbox tucked the wheels. Shaped like a pumpkin, alled a differential, and its main job help you go around corners. When a car rounds a bend, the outer wheels to travel farther than the inner ones, so they have to turn faster. The cogs in the differential let a car’s inner and outer wheels turn at different speeds. This is great for normal driving but there’s a snag.

A bit like invisible glue, it’s very powerful. Static friction is also what stops the wheels from slipping as they roll along the ground. or Try and drag a heavy box across the floor. At first it won’t budge, because static friction is holding it back. But once it SLIPS, the job is easy, because now a much weaker kind of friction is at work: sliding friction. When cars skid on wet roads, tires lose the force of static friction, and sliding friction takes over. FOE? Friction wears out your engine and slows you down at high speeds.
