My gripe is with the industrial production of food, typified by mega-supermarkets. In the sense that humanity needs a lot of it, food clearly needs to be produced on an industrial scale but it seems that whether it be eggs from battery hens or unripe (and unripenable) tomatoes, quantity has become the enemy of quality. Tastiness being costly, market forces are usually blamed for this state of affairs. However, people have to be persuaded that food should be cheap to start with. We are prepared to spend a fortune on gizmos and houses.
